The Misano motor racing circuit was designed in 1969, it hosted its first GP in 1980 and by 1993 had held 10. There was then a gap until 2007 when a completely rebuilt track, extended to 4.180km and run in the opposite direction allowed the circuit to once again became a Grand Prix venue. In 2005 the circuit launched a radical renovation and modernisation project, with a new main entrance and a medical centre the following year.
Brand new stands can now accomodate over 23,000 fans and 17 generator-equipped light towers have been erected. The circuit also boasts Wi-Fi coverage across the entire 4 square km site, one of only two racetracks in the world that can do so. A project of such grandeur deserves a befitting name, which is why in 2007 it was renamed the 'Misano World Circuit'.
