Dani Pedrosa only started fifth on the grid at the Moto GP race in Indianapolis last weekend – but the Spaniard ran a faultless race and finished in front of home crowd favourite Ben Spies....
Silverstone has long been the home of British Motorsport, and back in 1977 when MotoGP started in the UK it hosted the event for 10 years until 1986. For the following 23 years Donington held the race. Then in 2009, in light of a proposed Donington Formula 1 deal, MotoGP administrators agreed a 10 years deal with Silverstone, Donington's F1 bid subsequently failed and its future now looks uncertain, having lost both events in the space of a year. For the first time in almost a quarter of a century MotoGP returns to Silverstone, this year however they're throwing a little something extra into the mix. Silverstone Circuits Ltd have unveiled an all-new section of track that the MotoGP World Championship riders will experience during the AirAsia British Grand Prix, which is promising to be the fastest on the MotoGP calendar. His Royal Highness the Duke of York formally cut the ribbon and opened the major new section of track, which represents only the first stage of what is to be a multi-million pound revamp of the venue. Work has already started on a new pit and paddock complex that will be completed next year, the future certainly looks bright for Silverstone.
