Film music from India might evoke some cliches for Western listeners, but Mumbai producer and singer Sonaluna definitely knows how to eliminate such prejudices.

Sonal D'Silva, aka Sonaluna has created her very own template of swirling and transcendental music, thanks to which several of her compositions have been used as scores for short films and TV shows on National Geographic and the Discovery Channel.

“I remember the experience of hearing, for the first time, each and every piece of music I now consider one of my favourites. No matter the quality of the stereo system it played out of, or the other sounds it had to battle to be heard, I remember hearing often just brief snatches of sounds and feeling like I had to stop everything I was doing and just listen.”

Sonal's husband Elvis is a graphic animator, and together they created this charming clip for Mumbai's bitfilm festival:

Besides keeping herself busy in the studio with the production of her first album, Sonaluna works as a freelance writer for national music magazine The Record while she tends to her own sample library. There's no knocking this Mumbai girl's hustle.
