The Red Bull District Ride is finally here and rocking Nuremberg! Double Backflips, 360s, Tailwhips: what a rehearsal for Saturday's main event!

The Best Trick Contest of the Red Bull District Ride gave an early taste of what to expect for the finals of the FMB World Tour as sporting director Tarek Rasouli hailed a new dimension of mountain bike freeriding.

“It's unbelievable what the riders showed today. We were hoping for some big tricks but what they pulled out of their sleeves, especially over the largest dirt jumps in the World Tour, was totally amazing!”

The best rider of the day was Andreu Lacondeguy, from Spain, who convinced the judges with a backflip superman aka superflip over a 15-metre gap.

'The superflip was the trick I was having most fun with' – Lacondeguy

The spectacle that people witnessed on the main market square in Nuremberg can only be described as true trick fireworks. When the international elite of mountain bike freeriding go as big as they can to pull of the one trick that will overshadow every other attempt, it is not surprising that jaws were dropping all over the Best Trick District.

For one hour, riders such as Martin Soderstrom (SWE), Cameron McCaul (USA) and Andreu Lacondeguy (ESP) threw one insane trick after another out there.

The location they had at their disposal could not have been better: they started off a 12-metre-high ramp straight out of the city hall and had a choice of two kickers that allowed for jumps of 10 or 15 metres in length. The massive airtime left a lot of room for some gigantic moves.

Although it was not an easy call, in the end no one could touch Andreu Lacondeguy who convinced everyone with an extremely stylish superflip. In his previous runs, his trademark super-extended supermans had already made him an absolute audience favourite and when he showed his winning trick, there was no holding back and the 15,000 spectators hailed their new superstar. As Andreu put it: “The superflip was the trick I was having most fun with and it was the one I was doing a lot. And it’s an old school trick I am just doing really big. It worked today and I am super stoked. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow!”
