Gotan Project combines tango with dub, lounge and sultry summer sexyness. Hear their history and headphone highlights on Red Bull Music Academy Radio...

Formed in 1999, Gotan Project are a Paris-based trio made up of Philippe Cohen Solal (France), Christoph H. Müller (Switzerland) and Eduardo Makaroff (Argentina). Their first release in 2000 was "Vuelvo Al Sur/El Capitalismo Foráneo" and this was swiftly followed by debut longplayer La Revancha Del Tango, released in 2001 on Ya Basta! Records to rapturous applause worldwide.

Having forged their name from Spanish street talk, inversing the word “tango” and musically channeling the spirit of Astor Piazzola, Gotan Project fused the traditions of Argentine tango with cutting-edge production techniques of modern dance music.

The resulting fusion has struck a chord with listeners on both sides of the Dance / Tango fence, while their seminal track Santa Maria (Del Buen Ayre) has soundtracked detergent ads as well as key scenes in Hollywood dance flicks, such as ‘Shall We Dance?’ and ‘Take The Lead’.

Red Bull Music Academy Radio caught up with Eduardo and Phillipe for a session of handpicked favourites...
