Red Bull Racing's Formula One title contender Mark Webber will take time out before this week's Italian Grand Prix to show his support for crash victim Chris van der Drift who suffered serious injuries in a Superleague race at Brands Hatch in July.

Former Formula Master, Formula BMW and Formula Renault champion Van der Drift broke his right ankle, cracked his shoulder and suffered two broken fingers when he hit a bridge post at over 250kmph.

On Tuesday some of motorsport's next generation will join together in a two-hour endurance kart race at Daytona Milton Keynes to help raise money for Van der Drift's rehabilitation.

Red Bull test driver Daniel Ricciardo and British Formula 3's Jean-Eric Vergne will be among those in action.

Webber, who knows what it's like to be facing a long recovery period after he suffered a leg injury last year, will wave off the start of the event.

“It’s really humbling to see so many good friends from within the industry support me through this difficult period,” said Van der Drift.

“I am really looking forward to the kart fundraiser. I am sure it will be a fantastic event and I really cannot thank everyone enough for their efforts.”

After Milton Keynes, it's next stop Monza. Head to our dedicated event page as Webber and co gear up for the Italian Grand Prix...
