EPMD are a hip-hop band whose career has been long in the tooth. For a duo who employ the word 'business' in every album title and insist on calling one track from each album Jane, EPMD still remain remarkably distinguished.

In 1988 hip-hop duo EPMD (short for 'Erick and Parrish Making Dollars') unleashed their mighty debut long player Strictly Business on the world.

Released on Sleeping Bag sub label Fresh Records, and now a bonafide hip-hop classic, Brentwood, NY natives EPMD's distinct monotone rapping style and heavy funk sampling productions went on to be hugely influential.

After their second album, Unfinished Business, EPMD, born Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith, signed to Def Jam in the early 90s, and presided over their extended 'Hit Squad' family, including Das EFX, K-Solo, and Redman.

Splitting in 1993 amid much controversy, both Erick and Parrish forged solo careers, Sermon debuting with the No Pressure album, and Smith releasing Shade Business under the PMD moniker.

After reuniting in 1997 for their comeback album Back In Business, EPMD followed up a couple of years later with Out Of Business - with the EPMD initials now standing for Erick & Parrish Millennium Ducats.

With the duo's seventh opus, We Mean Business, arriving in 2008 and another record (under the working title There's No Business Like Showbusiness) expected in 2012, featuring guest spots from Raekwon and KRS-One, EPMD have definitely shown that they are hip-hop survivors.
