Our man in Cannes is keeping his ear to the ground and consequently has picked up these snippets of movie-related gossip...
- The Weinstein Company picked up the option on the Chinese film noir meets kung fu movie Wu Xia about a detective who comes across a paper-maker who may or may not be a renegade mass murderer. The film will be released stateside as Dragon.
- Jude Law was spotted at the prestigious 314 Club at 4 this morning on the arm of a new chick. He was also at the Belvedere Red party at the VIP the night before till the early hours alongside Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson. I take it he’s enjoying Cannes.
- Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Chris Walken will join Colin Farrell in the black, black comedy Seven Psychopaths directed and written by the great Martin 'In Bruges' McDonagh. The film tells of a screenwriter who has hit a blank wall with his latest script ‘Seven Psychopaths’ and is sucked into his nutty mates' (Walken and Rockwell) dog-kidnapping scheme. Things go awry when big time gangsters (Rourke) dog goes AWOL.
- Seventy three year old Jane Fonda turned up for the Pirates of the Caribbean premier showing off a recent face-lift. She admitted that she had never seen any of the previous movies of the franchise.
- Fonda joined Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas for lunch at the Eden Rock Restaurant, where they got a bit of sun Griffiths, dressed in a Gucci t-shirt gave the paps a big thumbs up. Go on girl.
